The Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren of Alhaja Barikisu Abeo Abass-Banire gathered to celebrate the legacies of “Iya Suna” and raised the bar of family ties.
They celebrated the good character and philanthropic nature of Alhaja Barikisu Abeo Abass-Banire at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Lagos.
According to the information available to Hotnewsnaija Online, Alhaja Barikisu is rooted from the historical and significant coastal town of Badagry through her father, Ifaremilekun Fagbemi, later known as Seriki Williams Abass.
Williams Abass was Seriki Musulumi of Old Western Yoruba land and later appointed paramount ruler of Badagry.
Alhaja Barikisu was born in 1875 and died in 1970. Within 95 years of her lifetime, she raised and supported many individuals without looking at their religions, race or ethnic groups.
She birthed four notable children namely; Fasasi Ojuolape Banire, Muritala Suberu Banire, Suwebat Banire Sule-Ope and Aliyu Suberu Banire.
While speaking to one of the granddaughters, Alhaja Sidikatu Ayinke Sarumi, she described her grandmother as a mother to all.
“My grandmother was a good mother to all. She made sure many children and grandchildren were educated. if anything happened to a child, Mama would be there to rescue the situation,” she said.
Another granddaughter, Alhaja Fausa Ojuolape Oke, opined that Alhaja Barikisu Abeo-Abass Banire was friendly and accommodating.
She said, “Mama was friendly and accommodating during her lifetime. She was a serial philanthropist. She used to feed the less privileged persons without complaining.”
On the same vein, Alhaji Sikiru Olabisi Banire described Mama Barikisu as a unifying factor to all and sundry.
While Alhaji Waheed Babalola Banire eulogised her grandmother, he sees her as a rallying point to her siblings, children and grandchildren.
To Former Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Muiz Banire, Mama Barikizu was an emblem of peace and contentment.
Alhaja Barikisu Abeo Abass-Banire, during her lifetime, settled at Ofin, Lagos Island as a mother of all, voice of voiceless and philanthropist to the less privileged. Although, she has large tentacles with Aiyetoro and Offa; Ogun and Kwara states respectively.
As grandchildren and great grandchildren promised to emulate Mama Barikisu Abeo-Abass Banire’s unique attributes, Dr Rasheedat Oke – Olaniyan thanked the family members for the support and encouragement.
