Polygyny: Froyal Amity Harps On Marriage Counseling as experts urge Muslim women to embrace Islamic injunctions

Froyal Amity, a modern Marriage Counseling Hub for partners, has called on all Muslim couples to accommodate marriage counseling in their relationships to solve marital challenges.

This was disclosed at the marital conference tagged ‘’ Polygyny:  Navigating Complexities For Harmonious Relationship’’, held at Bab Es-Salaam Hall, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

According to the Founder/ Lead Coach of Froyal Amity, Dr Rasheedat Oke-Olaniyan, it is vital for couples to involve marriage counseling in their affairs especially in plural marriages; to get valuable professional insights in navigating through the dynamics of relationship.

‘’ Marriage Counseling is necessary to every couple; especially polygynous families. It is meant to foster deep understanding between partners and solve challenges associated with relationships professionally.

‘’Now, Muslims must embrace marriage counseling to solve all attendant problems that may arise from marriages,’’ she said.

While delivering his lecture on polygyny, Alh. Nojeem Jimoh, Chief Imam of Lighthouse Muslim Community, he urged the Muslim women to embrace polygyny as the injunction from Almighty God not their husbands.

Imam Nojeem later warned husbands not to see polygyny as punishments to their wives.

On the same vein, Imam Adekunle Saheed, Proprietor & Principal of Al-Manar Institute of Arabic & Islamic Studies, opined that active listening must take a pole place in plural relationships.

He explained that any man who manages two or more wives must imbibe the spirit of listening attentively to all sides always.

‘’At every point in time, it is important for couples to put themselves in the shoes of others. This is marriage for you! For two people to agree, there are some elements they must understand in the union. Like, polygyny, it is supposed to be a mercy to Muslims but it is another way round today. It is neither a punishment to the first wives nor a way to correct mistakes of a relationship. Husbands in polygyny must be ready to listen to all  sides always,’’ the cleric added.

Meanwhile, Imam Taofeek Busari, Chief Imam/Director, Daaru-S-Sa’adah Islamic Centre, Ota, Ogun State, pleaded for information management, trust, time division, consideration and expectations from polygynous couples.

He said that men have major roles to play in plural relationships.

‘’In polygynous families, men have a lot of roles to play. They must know how to manage information among their wives so that there won’t be crises.

‘’Another major problem that husbands must work on is time division. Every wife in polygyny is unique and important. The husband must share his time accordingly to all the wives.

‘’ For peace to rein in plural relationships, the husband must put considerations in all his dealings. As Muslims, we must always put people in our shoes before acting. And we must act accordingly to Qura’n and Hadith of Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W),’’ he said.

On their parts, Dr Salahudeen Munirdeen of Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin; and Hajjia Bushiroh Okeowo Bombata, a Psychologist cum therapist hammered on proper communication among couples.

They advised couples to understand themselves and communicate clearly in their relationships.

Apart from the Chief Host, Engineer Azeez Olaniyan, many personalities graced the marital conference.
