Fans across Nigeria have lashed out at the faltering performance of the Super Eagles in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers opener against Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against the Crocodiles as Semi Ajayi scored the leveler after the Eagles earlier went behind to a 56th-minute goal from Lesotho defender Motlomelo Mkhwanazi.
The team’s lacklustre display on the pitch ignited a storm of criticism, leaving supporters seething over the disappointing outcome. The echoes of disapproval found their way to social media with fans criticising Jose Peseiro, his tactics, and the passions of the players on the team.
Social media influencer, OMOTAYO Of Lagos wrote, “Imagine drawing against Lesotho that are ranked 153 by FIFA in your backyard, so many things are wrong with this team including the manager himself.”
Desmond Umeh criticized the team and coach writing, “Very useless team and coach.”
Another user on X Tosin Adeda furiously said, “I don’t remember the last time I watched a Super Eagles game this terrible. Sack this coach now before it’s too late.”
Lateef CFC equally expressed shame and asked for the home-based players to be given a try as the current mix are not doing enough.
