…the area deserves a permanet and lasting solution to the continous criminal activities in the area.
The rate at which passersby are robbed, injured and sometimes k#lled has come on the heels of some residents’ call for increased security in the area, following unrelenting assaults from hoodlums, rapists and armed robbers.
Residents within and around Agege flyover called on the police to raid the identified areas in a bid to apprehend criminals tormenting innocent citizens, especially under the bridge by the railway line.
Our correspondent learnt that hoodlums usually unleash mayhem on the areas whenever they feel like. During attacks, the hoodlums wield Cutlasses Guns, Swords, Knives and broken bottles.
Residents stated that with little or no security agencies presence, the hoodlums usually have a field day whenever they creep into the communities and the railway line under the Agege flyover bridge to disposess people of their mobile phones, laptops, money, bags, jewelries and other properties.
They told our correspondents that hoodlums often lurk around the area in broad daylight and night to waylay unsuspecting passersby. Sadly, these innocent people are usually attacked and robbed.
Recently, a lady and her lover were attacked by a gang of criminals and stabbed multiple times.
Their attackers swooped on them as they walked home together in the night.
Residents told our correspondents that they live in fear as they watch teenagers who are usually high on drugs commit crimes without any scruple.
“We are overwhelmed and are in a dire state of helplessness by the nefarious activities of the hoodlums.”
“The scenario painted appears to have become a daily experience for dwellers of Pen Cinema and environs for no other reason than playing host to a lofty government project,- ‘Agege Bridge ‘
“Our problems started since the construction of the Pen Cinema flyover, especially concerning some boys who perpetrate robbery and wield dangerous weapons,” a resident narrated.
The rate of crime in Agege and environs especially around the vicinity of the bridge has escalated above anything seen in the past. This has also extended to some adjourning streets.
Going by the stories narrated to our correspondent by a victim and residents, it will not be out of place to conclude that the people of Agege have come under the unprecedented siege of crimes posing threat to their lives and property. This is due to the activities of street urchins.
Speaking on how the police could tackle violent crimes in the area, a resident, said the police should employ constant surveillance and patrols, especially under the bridge and armed police officers should have a mobile station under the bridge with security lights and cctv cameras.
