OPEIFA CUP FINAL: GOVERNMENT GIRLS JUNIOR COLLEGE AGEGE SET TO RULE LAGOS HANDBALL

The sixth edition of the Lagos State Secondary Schools Handball Championship, Opeifa Cup, which kicked off on Monday, 31st of January has produced four junior secondary schools in the male and female categories for the finals tomorrow at Rowe Park, Yaba.

During the semi-final matches played in the female category, Ikeja Junior School beat Herbert Macauley four nil while new debutant Government Girls College Agege defeated United Christian School two nil.

While speaking with some of the players, the girls from Agege said they have what it takes to shock their opponents in the grand finale which will hold today, 3rd of February, 2023 at Rowe Park.

Speaking on the progress of the team, Engineer Bola Ayorinde, a board member of Lagos state handball Association commended Government Girls Junior College Agege for showing class and strength despite being a debutant.

Ayorinde said it is envident that the team has talents that can dominate the sport in the state adding that the aim of the competition is to discover talents and expose potentials.

In the male category, Aje Comprehensive Junior School showed superiority over Ruthina International School in a match that ended eight-five while, Ikeja junior school also made it to the final after scoring three unreplied goals against Government junior college, Surulere.

The grand finale which will hold today at the Rowe Park by 2pm is expected to show case former handball players, coaches, the games sponsor, DR Kayode Opeifa, Director General, Lagos Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa among others.
